Above you will find a detailed floor plan of my future classroom:
Before you enter my classroom, you will find a bulletin board in the hallway. This will be for showcasing student’s work. Students will be encouraged to show off what they have been working on in the classroom. This will promote a classroom community because students will be able to look at each other’s work and then that may spark a conversation between them. Other students in the school may also read or look at what is going on inside of our classroom.
Bulletin Boards in the classroom- The bulletin board in the back of the classroom by the door will showcase what students are learning in class. Students will be able to put things up on the board that represents the unit they are learning about in a subject. The subject will change through out the year. This will promote student- student interaction and build a classroom community.
Student Tables- When you enter the classroom you will see student tables rather than student desks. The tables will promote students to talk to each other and collaborate among one another. Tables will also promote a positive classroom community because everyone will eventually sit with each other. I chose to use tables instead of rows because they are easier to get around and help all students, if the desks were in rows, students in the middle may nor be able to get the help they need because the teacher would not be able to reach them. The tables are set up so all students will be able to see the smart board.
SMARTBoard- There will be a SMARTBoard in the classroom. Smart board are very common in classrooms and are an interactive and engaging way to teach. There are many ways to use the Smart Board in the classroom from using it as a projector, teaching content, playing games, using it as a time management system, activities, etc.
White Board- The White Board will be in the back right of the classroom. This is for small group instruction with the teacher. The teacher can utilize this to write anything down that may be important to what they are teaching.
Kidney Table- The Kidney Table is meant for small group or individualized instruction. The teacher can call students back and do small group lessons such as guided reading. The teacher can also re teach students at this table. The teacher can easily interact with each student at the table. Students can also interact and talk with each other.
Computer area- The computer area is designed for students who need to take a break from instruction and students that need to research things. Students will be able to use computers in the morning, during indoor recess and during free time. Students will be encouraged to use computers when they finish busy work early and go on a educational website and play educational games.
Behind the teachers desk you will find shelves. The shelves will be in back of the teachers desk to store confidential documents like students IEP’s. These shelves are meant just for the teachers’ eyes and no ones else. One thing that I would do that I wouldn’t allow me to do on the floor plan would be putting up fabric curtains to hide the shelves and what are in them.
Storage Areas- the storage area will be in the front right of the classroom. This will be used to store games and other activities for students to use during free time and recess.
Round Table- The round table in the front right of the room is for students to work together. During group time students can choose to sit anywhere in the room including the round table. Students can meet here to play games in the morning, read, work on activities, etc. The round table is meant to promote classroom socialization and community.
The Bulletin Boards by the round table- These bulletin boards are meant for displaying information that could be helpful for students. There will be grammar posters, math facts, a word wall, etc.
The Bulletin Board by the teacher desk- This bulletin board will display classroom guidelines, rules, daily schedule, homework, etc. This will be changed everyday to fit the day.
Rocking Chair- The rocking chair is for the teacher when reading, teaching.
Square Rugs- Students will sit on the square rugs and listen to the teacher when they are in that chair. The two rugs are placed in front of the SmartBoard so the students have a place to sit while the teacher reads, and teaches lessons. These rugs will also be used during morning meeting when all students come together.
The reading nook- In the reading nook, there are three shelves and two bookstands in this section that will be filled with books for the students to read. There are also three beanbag chairs that students can sit in while reading. This area of the classroom is designed to promote reading and literacy. It can also be used as a station when appropriate. This section is meant to me a relaxing area. Hopefully I will be able to have lights dimmed over his section so it makes it more comfortable for students to read.
